In order to be accepted by many four-year colleges and universities, students must take either the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT). These are nationally normed achievement tests that measure the performance of college-bound students. While students may take and retake these tests throughout their school career, most choose to take the SAT or ACT in the spring of their junior year and/or early their senior year. Some colleges require students to take a specific admission exam (SAT or ACT). Students should be sure to determine the application requirements of their institution(s) of choice early in the application process.
Note: Registration deadlines occur approximately a month before the test administration date. Materials may be picked up in the Guidance & Counseling Office.
Students with an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) or a Section 504 Accommodation Plan may qualify for special testing conditions and should contact their counselor well in advance of the desired test date(s).

Both the SAT and ACT are held at local test centers (usually at high schools or community colleges) throughout the school year. Please refer to the test websites for specific dates and locations.
For additional information about the SAT, please visit www.collegeboard.com. For more information on the ACT, please visit www.act.org.
Advisory Note from the College Board: The best preparation for these tests is to take challenging academic courses, participate in discussions, and read for pleasure regularly.
Each October, the PSAT is administered at CHS. The PSAT is generally regarded as a practice opportunity for the SAT. All students considering post secondary education are encouraged to take the PSAT. Taking this test can potentially qualify high school juniors for a National Merit Scholarship (as long as the student is NOT enrolled in the Running Start program).
