Writing the
ATTENDANCE NARRATIVE
Directions:
1. Obtain a copy of your attendance
history from your cohort leader.
2. For your attendance narrative, write a
rough draft to the questions below (for your grade ONLY).
For
those who want them, rough draft worksheets to help you plan can be downloaded
from the CPP
website (in the BEST WORKS section) at:
http://www.upsd.wednet.edu/ccp/index.html
3. Have someone proofread and make
corrections on your rough draft. Make sure to use appropriate paragraphing,
complete sentences, correct spelling, and be neat (typed is best).
4. Submit final copy to include in your
portfolio.
10th Graders: Explain how your attendance has
affected your classwork, grades, friends, and extracurricular activities.
¤
Have
you done well in a class/activity (or poorly) due to your
attendance/punctuality?
¤
How
has good/bad attendance helped you learn/made it difficult to learn new skills
and concepts?
¤
Have
you been timely in meeting deadlines, and if so, how has it helped you succeed?
¤
What
is the relationship between your attendance and your GPA?
¤
What
relationship do you see between the employer quotes, below, and your pattern of
attendance/punctuality in school right now?
11th Graders: Imagine you are in an interview with a
prospective employer - maybe one of the employers whose quotes are included on
this page. The employer is reviewing your attendance/tardy history with you.
¤
Explain
how you will address the positive aspects of your record, and the not-so-positive
aspects of your record.
¤
Be
sure to explain how your record is an asset (+) and a handicap (-).
12th Graders: Read the following quotes from Washington-based
businessmen. What do employers expect?
¤
Choose
one of the quotes and write about whether you would be successful working for
this company. Why or why not?
¤
Explain
why an employer should hire you, based on your attendance history.
¤
Also
explain how your attendance habits have changed over time.
