TRANSITION
SERVICES
Transition services refer to
a coordinated set of activities for a student, which promotes movement
from school to postschool activities. Some examples of appropriate
postschool outcomes may include: post-secondary education, technical
training, integrated employment, supported employment, adult services
or independent living and/or community participation.
Transition services are offered
to support students by introducing skills across environments. Students
(ages 14 to 21) are taught skills in the classroom and in the environments
in which these skills are naturally applied. Instruction is provided
in all domains and environments, such as domestic, community, and
vocational areas.
Transition services assist students
and their families in developing contacts with adult service providers,
such as the Division of Developmental Disabilities and Division
of Vocational Rehabilitation. This assures that students will receive
appropriate community support and services upon graduation.
