Superintendent Banks reminded Board members of the Coach Lucey recognition ceremony after the Curtis High
School football game October 27, 2006.

Quarterly Conversation
Rick Maloney asked Board members to consider an alternative date for the November Quarterly Conversation. The
originally scheduled date was November 16, 2006 during the WSSDA Conference in Spokane, but not all Board
members will be attending.

Announcements
Student Rep Erika Koch said that Curtis High Schools' Achievement Gap Committee, a group of African American
students led by teacher Dionne Curren, met with the entire CHS staff during the Learning Improvement Day,
October 12. The focus of the meeting was to build student-teacher relationships. She also mentioned the upcoming
Mac Scholars Program.

Rick Maloney spoke briefly about the Seattle School Board and their recent problems regarding school closures.

At 6:56 the meeting was briefly recessed.

Susie Jensen, Director of Assessment and Technology, reviewed the four standards in policy E-2:
1)The performance of the district as a whole will exceed that of Washington State and the nation as a whole as
measured by standardized test and other data;
2)All UPSD schools will make adequate yearly progress as defined by the federal Elementary and Secondary
Education Act (No Child Left Behind);
3)The district will eliminate the achievement gap of disparate performance between identified student groups,
and will make yearly progress toward eliminating the achievement gap;
4)The district will make continuous progress on all measures and indicators.
