At all schools you have the motivated and the unmotivated. The biggest factor is peer
interaction.


Teachers can tell which students are active in school. They are more self-confident. The
kids who don't participate are forgotten.


Teachers will talk to those involved in things - (Ex. "How was the game last night?)


Not many reach out to them or approach them.


Curtis is pretty clique-y. It's tough to get in. If you're not part of a group or club at the
beginning, it's hard to get in.


Kids have been together for years - integrating is hard.


Some people just don't care and won't get involved.


Some try out for sports they love - but don't make the team. After the disappointment,
they won't try out the next year. Maybe if there were "C" teams it would help.


Track and wrestling have no cuts. You work on individual goals.


Once kids are cut they feel horrible and aren't motivated to try again.


Maybe have intramural sports? Dance Club? Students could still be involved. These
would be more welcoming to students who are passionate, but not as skilled as some.


Students new to UPSD don't have a bridge into Curtis. New kids don't know how to be
involved. We could do a better job with this.


German exchange students felt that CHS was anti-social.


Introduce yourself - ask someone to have lunch with you. Say something like
"swimming is fun - you should join us."


Maybe have a catalog of clubs and contact people so you could ask questions.


Maybe having booths about clubs and activities could be part of Viking Days?


How about having food at Club Rush tables?
