The UP Community
University Place celebrates the apple harvest each September during its annual Cider Squeeze, held at the Curran Apple Orchard Park.
The UP School District boundary area includes most, but not all of the City of University Place, and a small portion of the City of Tacoma.
The City of University Place has mixed business and residential areas and is near Puget Sound. Children 18 years of age and younger reside in nearly 33% of the households in UP.
According to the 2010 census, 67.91% of the residents are white, 8.05% are African American, 0.67% are Native American, 8.85% are Asian, and 6.67% are Hispanic, .80% are Pacific Islander, and 6.88% are 2 or more races.
