"Civil Liability"

Civil lawsuits are on the minds of everybody today. Liability often reaches you in the most unsuspecting ways. While there is nothing you can do to avoid being sued, there are things you can do to reduce the liability you subject yourself to. Can you answer these questions? Are you sure of your response?

(I)

Are you liable if a child was drinking at your residence (without your knowledge) and is later arrested or involved in an accident, perhaps seriously injuring or killing someone?

(II)

My child and her boyfriend were at your house visiting. She states she got pregnant in you childís room. Iím suing you for support of the child! (Can I do this, could I win?)

Would you like to sponsor a juvenile party or event? If so we commend you for your involvement with todayís youth. But before you take on one of these, learn what is expected of you. If you have specific questions, ask the advice of a lawyer. For a general advisory, try attending the next meeting of "The Parent Party Patrol (PPP)." This group is comprised of a concerned Parent, Liquor Control Board Agent, Police Officer, Insurance Company Lawyer and an Emergency Room Nurse. I highly recommend this to all parents.

"For those statistical people!"

1) 97% of parents who attend a PPP presentation had an increased awareness of un-chaperoned parties.

2) 50% of parents asked questions about their childís activities before attending a presentation and 72% asked questions after attending.

3) 50% of parents felt that communication with their children improved after attending.

4) 65% of participating parents modified guidelines or rules at home.
