In 2017, 54% of our seniors indicated their plan to attend a four-year college, and an additional 31% planned to attend a two-year college or technical college.
Curtis Senior High School opened in 1962 for grades 10th through 12th. It is the only high school in the University Place School District located in a suburb of Tacoma, Washington. It is a public school with a population of approximately 1,358 students, reflecting the ethnic diversity of the surrounding community; 9.1% African American/Black, 11.9% Asian, 0.8% Pacific Islander, 0.5% American Indian/Alaskan Native, 10.4% Hispanic/Latino, 53.5% White/Caucasian, and 13.8% Multiracial.
Although vocational/technical programs are available, the majority of students prepare to enter college directly from high school, nearly 54% into 4-year colleges/universities, 28% to our community colleges and about 3% to the technical college system.
The teaching faculty consists of 74 certified staff. There are 39 classified staff members.
There are six, 55 minute periods per day. All classes meet every day. The year consists of four, 10 week grading periods. Students take six classes per semester. (0.5 credit each).

All classes are weighted equally in computing the grade point average. Class rank is determined by the cumulative GPA. Total class enrollment is used in computing the class rank.
High School & Beyond Plan
All students attending Curtis High School will participate in the CHS High School & Beyond Plan. The High School & Beyond Plan is a formal process designed to help students think about their future goals and how to accomplish those goals.
