Congratulations to Jeri Pitz for being selected as UPSD 2018 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Pitz began her teaching career in 1989 at Whitman Elementary in Tacoma. In 2006, she joined UPSD as a teacher at Sunset Primary. Throughout her 29 years as a teacher, Mrs. Pitz has developed and shared her expertise to the benefit of her students, their parents, her peers and the district. Like so many UPSD teachers, Mrs. Pitz has dedicated countless hours to helping students in the classroom and in after school intervention programs. Regularly she arrives at school early and stays late to ensure her lessons are just right for her students. She is a master teacher and known for meeting the individual needs of every child.
Jeri has served as a mentor teacher, team leader, curriculum leader, and trainer. She has selflessly shared her expertise and wisdom with countless teachers both formally and informally. She is respected and admired by all of those whom have been lucky enough to work alongside her. Beyond the students she has cared for and instructed so expertly, Mrs. Pitz has provided a legacy of teachers she has trained or mentored.
